What we do
optimising performance under pressure

You're a world class golfer, lining up a simple 18 inch putt. On the practice green, you'd make it 999 times out of 1000. It's virtually unmissable. But this time, it's for the British Open.

Suddenly, 18 inches looks an awfully long way. . .

Understanding "the top 2 inches"
Why is it so incredibly difficult to do something we normally find easy when the pressure is on? What exactly happens inside our heads that causes skills we may have had for years to desert us, just when we need them most?

Understanding "the top 2 inches"- unravelling the sometimes frustrating complexities of the human mind - is the key to success, and sustainable improvement in performance.

Different kinds of pressure
Crucially, the work we do at Gazing is based on the firm belief that, in an increasingly competitive world, the pressure to perform is present in every workplace, every day.

It may not be as glamorous as the "Championship putt" variety, but nobody could deny that there may be extreme pressure in any of the following situations, particularly when the individual concerned is expected to perform the task in question to a high standard, day after day:

-Making an important sales call
-Chairing a difficult meeting
-Facing a classroom of rowdy teenagers
-Taking up a new leadership role
-Dealing with an irate customer
-Handling an under-performing employee

And in every case, a successful outcome can depend to a huge degree on how well the individual or team concerned respond to that pressure - bearing in mind that pressure can help us raise our game, if we know how to manage it.

Doing the simple things well
The Gazing approach to optimising performance is all about doing the simple things exceptionally well. We help people learn how to think clearly and execute the skills they have, consistently, whatever situation they find themselves in.

But, in the incredibly complex environment that is the human mind, such "simplicity" is anything but simple to achieve.

Improved performance: a systematic approach
To overcome the negative effects of pressure on performance, people need three main things:
        1. A clear "big picture" understanding of the task in hand
        2. A well defined framework in which to operate
        3. Practical tools and knowledge

At Gazing, we focus equally on all three. We help people understand and acquire the mind-set that will get the job done, and we show them how to translate that into their everyday working lives - connecting clear thinking to effective execution.

We don't call what we do training - which, for us, implies something of finite duration and, in most cases, limited practical usefulness. Gazing systems are not a one-off event, but the basis for an entirely new way of performing a task or function; a way that will enable you to achieve more consistent performance and better results.
